Who can register?

Applicants may register only after receiving confirmation from Unisa that their admission application has been accepted. If it is discovered that you were mistakenly admitted to a qualification, Unisa reserves the right to refuse to process and/or cancel your registration. It is not a given that you will be admitted to the alternative qualification. It depends on whether you meet the admissions requirements and if there is enough room. Students who are re-registering for the 2023-2024 academic year can do so once the registration period opens.

Please note:

Please apply for the alternative qualification online if you want to start a new qualification. With the exception of study guides, all correspondence delivered to you after the introductory study package will be sent electronically to your myLife e-mail account (eg follow-up tutorial letters, examination timetables and results, financial statements).  This type of information will no longer be sent to you in printed form.

How to choose your modules

To graduate from a Unisa qualification, you must complete a particular number of modules and NQF level credits within a certain amount of time. To re-register and continue with your qualification, you must pass a minimum amount of credits/modules each year:

In your first year of study, you must earn at least 36 NQF credits (3 modules of 12 credits each). In your second or subsequent years of study, you must have at least 48 NQF credits (4 modules of 12 credits each).

You are not permitted to enrol for more than the maximum amount of credits/modules per semester:

In a semester, you must earn at least 60 NQF credits (5 modules of 12 credits each).

For year modules, at least 120 NQF credits (10 modules of 12 credits each) are required.

Supplementary and/or aegrotat tests from a prior semester are not included in the maximum amount of credits. Non-degree / non-diploma modules are also counted toward the maximum number of credits allowed.

When selecting your modules, you must evaluate your available time, as this will have an impact on your academic achievement. For semester modules, you’ll require about 6 to 8 hours per week. Year modules take 4 to 6 hours per week.
