Students who do not meet all of the aforementioned entry requirements should apply for the BEd rather than this qualification (Intermediate and Senior Phase Teaching).  The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) encourages students to get a BEd degree in order to improve their job prospects. Non-degree subjects may not be available for outstanding entrance subjects. After completing this course, a student will be qualified to teach grades 4 through 9. Teaching Practice (10 weeks) is a requirement of this curriculum and must be completed according to strict guidelines. This qualification includes semester and year modules. Year modules can only be registered during the academic year’s January registration period. From the first year of BEd registration, students must additionally register with SACE (South African Council for Educators). For additional information, please visit the SACE website at https://www.sace.org.za/.

Purpose statement:
The PGCE serves as a professional ‘capping’ qualification for candidates who have completed an appropriate 360 or 480 credit Bachelor’s degree other than the BEd. The qualification accredits the development of professional competence reflexively grounded in educational theory.

This qualification will be presented using both online and distance learning modes.

The PGCE acts as a professional ‘capping’ qualification for applicants who have earned a 360 or 480 credit Bachelor’s degree in a field other than education. The certification recognizes the growth of professional competence that is automatically based on educational theory.

This qualification will be delivered in two formats: online and distant learning.

Only students who have previously registered for this certification will be eligible for this qualification until 2023.
