Admission requirements

Qualification admission requirements

Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.

A National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Degree endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning,


a Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption or qualify for the Matriculation Board’s exemption with at least a D symbol on HG


a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning. Applicants who do not satisfy the aforementioned standards might consider applying for a lower level qualification for which they meet the statutory and extra requirements.

Student fees and funding your studies

Application fee

Pay the application fee once you’ve received your student number:

  • R120 for online applications
  • Use the student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie STUDENTNUMBER 5370810030)
  • Send the proof of payment to susdepid@unisa.ac.za
  • Visit www.unisa.ac.za/paymentinfo for banking information and payment information

Please keep in mind that this application cost is non-refundable, even if you decide not to study via Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa, or are not granted a seat owing to restricted space availability.

Apply for admission

Applications for undergraduate credentials (higher certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, and degrees) at Unisa will be accepted from 11 August to 15 October 2023.

Please take note of the following:

  • All admissions applications must be filed online. There will be no self-help booths for applicants.
  • Admission to a qualifying does not come with a guarantee. It will depend on whether you meet the entrance standards and if there is enough room.

TVET colleges provide additional help for this certification.

Unisa has an agreement with various Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges to provide lessons in a limited number of criteria These classes have been shown to enhance the overall throughput rate of students who enroll in them.

Take note of the following:

  • Make sure that your TVET college of choice offers support in your qualification.
  • During the Unisa application season, you can apply for admission through your TVET college or through Unisa.
